I carry Ethernet cable with me all the time so you know it will be useful. To help you memorize it, I created a brilliant poem so you will always remember the most popular cable wiring color order. Just follow the steps below to create your own. If you are looking for an Ethernet crossover cable you can make one following the steps below and paying attention to the relevant note. Read on! The first thing you need to do when making Ethernet cable is make sure you have the right tools.
There are a couple of standards and there is also crossover cable, so make sure you study the RJ45 Pinout diagrams below to get the right one for your needs. The following is for T B most common. I like this pinout diagram because it shows everything you need for including an isometric view and pin-color order table, all in one large diagram. You can print it for the wall, but the smaller one below also shows what you need within a smaller diagram which may be better to print and carry with you.
You may already know each Ethernet cable has four wire pairs. All your Ethernet connectors 8P8C have eight pin slots. Always face the clip away from you so you see just the flat side with the pins. You count or label the cables from left to right from 1 to 8 easy! As I explained, the most popular and most common is the TB standard which has surpassed the first standard TA. As you can see in the above picture, no two pairs have the same amount of twists per inch. Many Cat-6 cables also include a nylon spline which helps eliminate crosstalk. Although the spline is not required in Cat-5 cable, some manufactures include it anyway.
In Cat-6 cable, the spline is not required either as long as the cable tests according to the standard. In the picture above, the Cat-5e cable is the only one with a spline.
In this picture the Cat-5e cable has the thinnest sheath, but it also was the only one with the nylon spline. Unshielded twisted pair can easily be used for cables between your computer and the wall, but you will want to use shielded cable for areas with high interference and running cables outdoors or inside walls.
This protects the pairs from crosstalk internally. Solid and stranded Ethernet cables refer to the actual copper conductor in the pairs. There are many different applications for each type of conductor, but there are two main applications for each type you should know about. Stranded cable is more flexible and should be used at your desk or anywhere you may be moving the cable around often.

How to wire Ethernet Cables
Ethernet cable Color-coded wiring sequences exist as a cabling industry standard. It allows cabling technicians to reliably predict how Ethernet cable is terminated on both ends so they can follow other technicians' work without having to guess or spend time deciphering the function and connections of each wire pair. Ethernet cable jack wiring follows the TA and TB standards.
There is no electrical difference between the TA and TB wire sequences, so neither is inherently superior.
The only difference between them is how frequently they are used in a particular region or type of organization. So, your choice of color code - which one is "right" - will largely depend on the country you work in and what types of organizations you install for. However, they are not interchangeable. Following either the TA or TB convention is essential when you build your own cables to ensure electrical compatibility with other equipment. If you don't build your own cables, you only need to verify the correct standard for use with your equipment.
For historical reasons, TB is the more popular standard, although some homes use the TA version. The table below summarizes this color coding of the wires in the connectors. Several other kinds of connectors closely resemble RJ45s, and they can be easily confused with one another.
Other than that, they look very much the same. The tab creates a tighter seal between a cable and a port on insertion, requiring downward pressure on the tab to unplug it. The tab prevents a cable from accidentally coming loose. These tabs easily break when bent backward, which happens when the connector snags on another cable, clothing, or other nearby objects.

If you have a crimping tool, strip away a portion of the sheath, untangle and arrange the wires in the correct order, fit them into the connector, and use the crimping part of your tool to squeeze the small pins into the wires and secure the connector.
Use a pair of scissors or a utility knife to cut away a section of the sheathing at the end of the cable, untwist and arrange the small cables in the right order, put them into the RJ connector, and use a small, flathead screwdriver to press down each of the pins. But be careful not to cut the wires inside.
